Power and lighting systems of all types are part of PDC’s wide range of electrical experience. Our projects include transportation facilities, hospitals, schools, athletic and recreational venues, remote camps, lodge and research facilities, and various commercial establishments. We work closely with other design and engineering disciplines in each project to ensure lighting performance and control is integrated with project goals in cost-effective and practical ways. Outdoor lighting design includes airport runway, taxiway, apron, and approach lighting, marinas, parking lots, roadways, and high mast lighting for highway, marine, and railway applications.
Power design experience includes diesel-electric power generation for emergency-standby systems where utility power is normally available and prime power installations for isolated and remote sites. Distribution design services extend to power distribution systems for remote site and military base / campus-scale systems. Other related projects include renovation and modernization of existing military steam generation plants and related industrial operations. One of our more challenging projects included a prime power generation facility for the research station located at the geographic South Pole.
PDC’s experienced engineers cover all aspects and levels of power distribution systems to 15 kV. This experience includes the design of above- and below-ground electrical systems located in unfrozen and frozen soils, and similar difficult conditions encountered in polar regions.
Power and lighting projects include:
- The Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport Seismic and Security Upgrade Project: Power and lighting renovations within older areas of the facility (Concourse B, Main Ticketing Area, and Baggage Claim).
- Fairbanks Alaska Railroad Passenger Terminal: Traditional railway-themed terminal with related architectural lighting. Power design included provision of specialized “shore power” equipment for passenger trains over-nighting in the yard.
- Hospital and Health Care: A number of projects at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital including imaging equipment (X-Ray, MRI and PET/CT), emergency department expansion and remodel, Cancer Treatment Center, and related upgrades to facility infrastructure.
- Fort Wainwright Central Heating and Power Plant: Electrical design for the Air Cooled Condenser project, including expansion of the plant power system and revision of the plant outdoor substation to suit the project.
A PDC specialty is electrical design for water and sewer utility projects in Fairbanks, North Pole, and surrounding villages. These projects include sewerage lift stations, village water treatment plants, and related distribution systems.
PDC keeps pace with the evolution of digital electronics used in everyday life. These systems include fire detection and alarm, telephone and data networks, security and access control, CCTV and related surveillance systems, and coordination of direct digital control (Building Management) systems with other signaling systems.
Our design experience includes a wide array of facilities from small to large-scale educational facilities, industrial plants, hospitals, and military installations. Our system experience includes numerous projects with Fairbanks North Star Borough School District, Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, AT&T Alaska, Department of Defense, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, and others.
