Surveying
PDC's Survey Department offers a full range of surveying services statewide. Our surveyors have worked throughout Alaska from Ketchikan to Barrow and from the Canadian border to Shemya. Rapid response to difficult projects in remote areas is normal operation for crews accustomed to harsh weather and the challenges of differing environments across the state.

We provide surveys for control, photo control, boundary, topography, engineering design, subdivision design and platting, right-of-way, record of survey, construction, environmental, and GIS and GPS mapping projects.

Our field personnel are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment including dual-frequency GPS receivers, RTK systems, robotic total stations, and electronic digital levels. Fully loaded laptops allow our crews to perform many office tasks in the field, such as data download, AutoCAD drafting, and GPS processing and adjustment.

PDC surveyors provide innovative and cost-effective surveys for clients throughout Alaska... as we have since 1975.

Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
PDC has provided GIS services to a variety of clients since 1997, when we helped the City of North Pole set up their new MapInfo GIS software. PDC performed the control survey; georeferenced digital imagery; trained city employees to operate GPS receivers mounted on four wheelers to collect water and sewer feature information; and then processed and formatted the data for import into the GIS system.

In 2005, we performed a GIS storm sewer data collection and formatting project covering the Fairbanks area as part of an NPDES compliance program. Our work included a GPS Real Time Kinematic (RTK) survey of catch basins and storm drains on Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) managed roads. We provided the data in a manner that facilitated import into the DOT&PF storm mapping GIS system.

In 2007, we created a GIS project for the Fairbanks International Airport that was based on the airfield electrical and lighting system. The project, which we created in ARCview 9.2, included digital imagery of the entire airport. It incorporated design plans and specifications for the proposed runway reconstruction along with survey control information and survey data in AutoCAD with layering systems that conform to FAA Advisory Circular 150/5300-18B.
