Traffic congestion and circulation problems during school pick-up times prompted a careful analysis of traffic circulation around Anderson Elementary School. PDC first performed a traffic analysis based on field visits, a map study of housing units and available routes to the school, interviews with the principal, and traffic counts. Next, we developed a site plan that separated the four main traffic functions: staff parking, visitor parking, parent drop-off, and a dedicated bus lane.
We designed the detailed construction plans for the site layout, grading, signage, striping, lighting, landscaping, and a new playground.
Anderson Elementary is a public school located on a military base, which required close coordination with the Fairbanks North Star Borough, the FNSB School District, and the Eielson Air Force Base Civil Engineering Department.
