We recently completed the FNSB’s first assessment of both the transfer site program and the feasibility of a consolidated borough recycling program. To develop alternatives for the FNSB’s 14 waste transfer stations and assess the potential volumes of recyclables, we conducted a robust GIS-based population forecast for the borough. Public involvement activities included a project website, three public open houses, stakeholder interviews, media interviews (radio + newspaper), and on-the-ground surveys at several sites. The project capitalized on the grassroots recycling efforts in the community to expand the reach of the study without incurring additional cost. The FNSB is currently implementing the first phase of the project.
